About Azteca Apartments in Pueblo, CO

In 1977, Arthur Escobado and his three sons, Arthur, Michael, and Phillip began working on the development of Azteca Apartments. Construction finished and the doors were opened for residents in 1979. Our apartment community has always been family oriented, and Art. Sr. and Michael still own and manage the complex today.

In 2013, Azteca was selected as one of the top 3 properties in the State of Colorado due to our energy system maintenance upkeep, and our building. We were awarded a grant from the Governor's Energy Office, which helped us upgrade our common area air conditioners, boilers, individual air conditioning units, refrigerators, and well as heating systems within the units.

Section 8 HUD Housing Options

Our goal is to provide a safe, independent living environment for senior citizens and individuals with disabilities. From our beginning, we have been dedicated to serving lower income residents, and we are passionate about making sure all of our residents feel welcome and at home while living in our affordable housing community.

Azteca Apartments consists of 201, one-bedroom elderly community units. Each unit is Section 8 subsidized by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). Section 8 is a program through the HUD that offers rental assistance for low-income tenants who meet the federal requirements for the program. For more information on resident requirements, please give us a call at 719-546-0758.

Rent is based on a resident's gross income. This is calculated by subtracting approved medical expenses from their income. Residents pay 30% of the adjusted income for rent and utilities.

The HUD determines residency requirements. To be eligible for an apartment under the HUD Section 8 program, you:

  • Must have an annual income consistent with HUD guidelines
  • You or your spouse must be at least 62 years of age or older
  • OR you are under 62 years of age and receiving Social Security Disability Benefits
